Roads

I'm chasing Gods while chased by Death,
Painting my road so careless,
A desert takes away my breath,
And makes me very anxious.

I've seen your road, ivory white,
Maya blue clouds, deceiving -
My eyes, - your picture's a delight,
In light and shades, so teasing.

The flowers silver, ice blue, teal,
Enchant my wasteland vision.
I know I'm not allowed to feel -
so much for just a fiction.

The lake, liquid, electric blue,
I'm tense and feel so captive,
'Cause I have lost my road for you,
The blue was too deceptive.

Pathetique

Details - detachment; dawn of sorrow:

Today I cry;

And die tomorrow.

Eternity - I seek in blue -

And all I find

Behind - is you.

For all my senses - so sublime...

I challenge space,

I race with time.

But neither time nor space could tell

That heaven’s games

Are flames of hell.

That angel eyes could lie so sweet.

That I'm unreal

Until we meet.

Essential, abstract, bare illusion.

Sad little line -

With divine fusion.

What could be poison,

If not love?

Beneath your soul,

Beyond, above...

Still complex tears -

Redeemer’s choice,

That had as muse

The devil's voice.

Heaven in Hell (or viveversa)

“But never doubt I love …”
W. Shakespeare

Time is ticking, can you hear,
The spirals waves are sending?
And digging voids to a nadir
above your eyes just pending?

It could be heaven, and yet cold...
And hell might steal your fire.
To all regrets - your soul is sold,
Doubt truth to be a liar.

Late In November ... We Shall Wonder ...

The Consent

~ by Howard Nemerov

Late in November, on a single night
Not even near to freezing, the ginkgo trees
That stand along the walk drop all their leaves
In one consent, and neither to rain nor to wind
But as though to time alone: the golden and
green

Leaves litter the lawn today, that yesterday
Had spread aloft their fluttering fans of light.
What signal from the stars? What senses took it
in?

What in those wooden motives so decided
To strike their leaves, to down their leaves,
Rebellion or surrender? And if this
Can happen thus, what race shall be exempt?
What use to learn the lessons taught by time,
If a star at any time may tell us: Now.

We close the eyes before heaven, and are flabbergasted by the darkness. We seek the sounds, and picture them as answers, and draw them outside time ... to fit within a rhyme.
